2025 Skillsoft risk dashboard launch
Goal: Give HR and learning leaders visibility into organizational training risks, so they could take action by targeting training assignments

- I led end-to-end research and design, launching a dashboard that offered visibility into compliance gaps for learning and HR professionals

The problem space
Training and HR leaders at client organizations wanted to reduce risk, by directly addressing deficiencies in compliance training in areas like cybersecurity.
Skillsoft needed to address a competitive threat by making risk data available, while motivating our SaaS customers to assign more training and increase engagement in our learning platform.

My role and my partners
Beginning on my first week at Skillsoft, I led end-to-end product design, executing research through high-fidelity design and quality assurance during launch.
I partnered with product managers and SMEs, structuring their guidance in ways that would be accessible to a range of end users. I also proactively served the engineering team throughout UX QA.
Design
- I iterated collaboratively, while sharing low-fidelity wireframes with SME partners to help focus the conversation and drive meaningful feedback
- I explored generative AI, including Figma Make, to convert wireframes to high-fidelity designs
- I sketched various data visualization approaches to rapidly see what worked
- I ultimately built out core high-fidelity screens and various empty states, annotating for engineers
Research
- I immersed myself in competing dashboards, such as LRN Catalyst, to gain a quick understanding of the space
- Prior to launch, I used Maze to evaluate design with 21 specialized users, leading to direct improvements like clearer definitions of risk areas
- I leveraged AI to rapidly and confidently synthesize research data
Outcomes
- 73% ranked the dashboard as useful or very useful, with a median ranking of 4.0 out of 5
- According to users, the dashboard addressed preexisting compliance concerns and knowledge gaps, and facilitated appropriate actions

My takeaways
This project served me as yet another reminder that clarity is a designer’s greatest tool.
Starting with a quick concept in my first week, I was reminded that open, low-fidelity collaboration builds trust faster than polish ever could. As the work grew more complex, I found that simple structures and plain language made the dashboard easier to grasp.
The experience reinforced that well-framed design decisions are what keep both products and teams moving forward.
